new experiments

a trip to the hardware store got my wheels turning + I've begun experimenting with new materials. I'm making molds and painting modern frescoes with layers of paint in geometric, tribal and abstract patterns. on the functional side, I'm creating decorative chalkboard pieces. exploring is fun.

Thomas Edison, inventor of LOLcats

Hear the name Thomas Edison and you think light bulb, motion picture camera, phonograph. Something new for the resume: "LOLcats inventor".

He filmed two cats boxing back in 1894. The short film was shot at Edison's movie production studio The Black Maria in West Orange, NJ - America's First Movie Studio.

The interwebs thank you, Mr. Edison.

kind of insane, very exciting

so this is pretty cool. a pen that let's you draw three-dimensional sculptures, on paper or in mid-air. and it's completely affordable. check out the video, then preorder yours on Kickstarter for $75. They're already at 5+ times their initial goal. plus, they are collaborating with wire artists to showcase the 3Doodler's potential. can't wait to get my hands on one!

grand lights

this is so cool. I wish I had been amongst the unsuspecting crowd who were lucky enough to witness this . MTA Arts for Transit invited NYC group Improv Everywhere to put on the celebratory 135-LED flashlight show in the station's west side windows.

Happy 100, Grand Central!

learn something every day

these colorful doodles by UK-based design studio Young are GENIUS.

each contains a "learn something every day" fun fact. I'm so in love with them. the original webseries (here) has been turned into a book (here). they even have an iphone app (though I couldn't find it in itunes). arm yourself with odd info for the next trivia night!

and though, as a city dweller I detest rodents, I even enjoyed this one:
